Our Story – Meet Valerie
Hi, I’m Valerie 💗
I’m a hairdresser, mum and the founder of Tender Strands Hair Care. After 17 years behind the chair at Hair by Valerie in Tooradin, Victoria, I’ve seen just how hard everyday brushing can feel for little ones, busy parents and adults with sensitive scalps.
Some people find brushing uncomfortable or overwhelming, including some autistic people, people with ADHD and others with sensory sensitivities. Everyone’s comfort is different. I wanted to create gentler options and share the practical haircare tips I use in the salon and at home. That’s how Tender Strands began.
Our next chapter: Queensland
At the end of 2026, I’ll be saying goodbye to my salon chapter in Tooradin. Hair by Valerie is finishing on 23 December 2026, and in January 2027 our family is planning to relocate to Queensland for a new adventure.
It’s a big, bittersweet change. Over the years, my salon clients and I have shared so many chats, laughs, milestones and memories. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Hair by Valerie and helped me build Tender Strands.
While our address is changing, Tender Strands is coming with us. I’ll continue sharing hairdresser tips and growing this little Australian haircare business with thoughtful brushes, tools and salon haircare for real-life routines.
